Foundation & Early Years
Gene Haas F1 Team was founded in 2016 by American entrepreneur Gene Haas, marking the return of a true American constructor to Formula 1 since 1986. Haas, already successful in NASCAR and manufacturing through Haas Automation, adopted a lean approach by partnering with Ferrari and Dallara, allowing for a competitive debut.
Team History & Evolution
Haas F1 Team debuted in 2016, with both Romain Grosjean and Esteban GutiĂ©rrez scoring points in Australiaâsomething no new team had done since 2002. Their partnership with Ferrari and Dallara enabled early success. The teamâs highest finish came in 2018, regularly scoring points.
Former team principal GĂŒnther Steiner left at the end of 2023; in January 2024, engineer Ayao Komatsuâpreviously Haasâ Trackside Engineering Directorâwas promoted to Team Principal. Under Komatsuâs leadership, Haas finished seventh in the 2024 Constructors' Championship, scoring 58 pointsâtheir best since 2018.
Komatsu focused on improving development momentum and securing a technical partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing in October 2024 to enhance their competitiveness. The team aims to build on this foundation toward long-term midfield consistency.
