ποΈFoundation & Early Years
The birth of a racing legend
Alpine F1 Team represents the latest evolution of one of Formula 1's most storied operations. Beginning as Toleman in 1981, the team transformed through Benetton (1986-2001) and Renault (2002-2011, 2016-2020) before becoming Alpine in 2021. Each iteration brought innovation and success, from Benetton's championship victories with Michael Schumacher to Renault's return to glory with Fernando Alonso, and now Alpine's vision of combining French automotive excellence with Formula 1 expertise.
πTeam History & Evolution
Decades of Formula 1 excellence and innovation
The team's lineage began as Toleman in 1981, becoming Benetton in 1986, Renault in 2002, Lotus Renault in 2011, Renault again in 2016, and Alpine in 2021. The team has won constructors' championships in 1994-1995 (as Benetton) and 2005-2006 (as Renault), and drivers' titles with Schumacher (1994-95) and Alonso (2005-06). Based in Enstone, England, the team has a long history of innovation in Formula One, including giving Ayrton Senna his F1 debut in 1984. The rebranding to Alpine in 2021 reflects Renault Group's strategy to promote its sportscar brand, while maintaining the team's competitive heritage.
