Live Timing Documentation

A reference for every panel, column and setting on the live timing screen. The sections follow the same order as the dashboard itself (the Timing page first, then Lap times and Charts), top to bottom and left to right, so you can find whatever you are looking at on screen.

Colour is used throughout the dashboard as a shortcut, never as the only signal. Wherever a colour carries meaning, this guide also gives it in words, and the underlying value on screen always says the same thing.

The Three Live Pages

Location on screen: Tab bar under the session info bar: Timing, Lap times, Charts, Help

Live timing is split into three pages that share the same session info bar and the same data connection. Switching between them does not interrupt the feed. The Help button at the right end of the tab bar opens this guide.

Live timing pages
PageAddressWhat it contains
Timing/livetimingThe leaderboard, track map, driver timeline, championship projections, team radio, penalties, track limits and race control.
Lap times/livetiming/lap-timesThe lap time series: a lap-by-lap table for the drivers you choose.
Charts/livetiming/chartsEvery live chart for the current session type, one under the other, with a row of buttons to jump to any of them.

Good to know

  • The session info bar stays fixed at the top on all three pages, so session, weather and track status are always visible.
  • Settings, the timing delay and notifications apply to all three pages. The custom layout (Premium) arranges the Timing page, chooses which charts appear and in what order on the Charts page, and shows or hides the lap time series.
  • Free accounts see a limited set of drivers in some panels and a lock on some charts; each section says which.
Note:In replay mode the tab bar is not shown: replay always shows the Timing page. See Replay Mode.

Session Info Bar

Location on screen: Fixed bar across the top of the screen, on all three live pages

A bar that never scrolls away, so you can always see which session is running, what the weather is doing and whether the track is currently clear. Check it first whenever you come back to the page.

Session details (left)

Fields shown on the left of the session info bar
FieldWhat it showsNotes
Country flagThe flag of the country hosting the meeting.None
Meeting and sessionFor example “Monaco Grand Prix · Qualifying”.During qualifying the current segment is appended: Q1, Q2 or Q3. Sprint qualifying uses SQ1, SQ2, SQ3.
Countdown clockTime remaining in the session, as hours:minutes:seconds.Hidden during Race and Sprint sessions, which end on laps rather than a clock. If you have set a delay, the countdown is shifted to match.
Chequered flagReplaces the clock once the session has ended.Appears when the session status is Finished, Finalised or Ends.

Weather (right of centre)

On narrow screens (below the large breakpoint) the weather and the track status move to a second fixed row directly under the session bar, to make room for the session name.

Track status (right)

A coloured pill showing what the marshals are signalling right now, next to the lap counter (current lap and total laps). The label text is always shown alongside the colour on wider screens.

Track status values

Safety CarYellowA physical safety car is on track. The field bunches up behind it and overtaking is forbidden.
Red FlagRedThe session is stopped. Cars return to the pit lane.
VSC DeployedYellowVirtual Safety Car: no physical car, but every driver must hold a delta time and cannot overtake.
VSC EndingYellowThe Virtual Safety Car period is about to finish and racing is about to resume.

Leaderboard

Location on screen: Main panel, top left

The live classification. Every driver is one row; every piece of timing information is a column you can switch on or off. This is where you check who is where, who is quick right now, and who is about to be caught.

Every column

23 columns are available. 11 are shown by default; the rest you can add from Settings. The first name is what you will see in the Settings list, the second is the heading on the table itself.

All available leaderboard columns
ColumnShown by defaultWhat it showsHow it works
DriverYesPosition, team logo and the driver's three-letter code (TLA), on the team colour.Live classification position. A yellow ring means this is your primary favourite driver (whoever you clicked most recently), a purple ring means your secondary favourite. A penalty icon appears alongside if the driver has an unserved penalty.

Position change
Header: Pos
NoPlaces gained or lost compared with the starting grid.Grid position minus current position. Green for a gain, yellow for a loss. Only meaningful in a race, without grid data it falls back to showing the lap count.
Mini sectorsYesThe lap broken into small segments, one bar per segment, grouped into three sectors. Each bar is coloured by that segment's status. See the mini-sector table below.
Last sectorsYesThe three sector times from the most recent lap.Purple for session best, green for a personal best. Dimmed purple or green means you are looking at the previous lap's value because the current one has not been set yet.
Best sectorsYesThe driver's fastest time in each of the three sectors.A sector is purple when this driver is fastest of all drivers in that sector.
Top speed

Best speeds
Header: Best Spd (I1, I2, FL, ST)
NoBest speed at each of the four speed traps, side by side.I1 and I2 are intermediate points, FL is the finish line, ST is the speed trap. Each is independently purple when fastest of the session.
Potential lap

Potential diff
Header: Pot Diff
NoHow much time is left on the table versus the driver's actual best lap.Best lap minus potential lap. A value of zero is highlighted green. The driver has already put a perfect lap together.
Gap Lap

NoLast-lap time difference against a reference driver. A pace comparison, not a track gap.Click the header to cycle the reference: Ahead, Leader, or Fav. Negative (green) means the driver was quicker than the reference on that lap.
Gap Sectors
Premium below P3 (Ahead, Fav, Ahead Acc and Fav Acc modes)
NoThe same comparison as Gap Lap, but split per sector so you can see where time is won or lost.Click the header to cycle the reference and mode: Ahead, Leader, Fav, then the same three again as Ahead Acc, Leader Acc, Fav Acc. The Acc modes show the accumulated gap through each sector (sector 2 = sector 1 + sector 2, sector 3 = sector 1 + sector 2 + sector 3) instead of that sector alone. Negative (green) means quicker.
Position if pit
Header: If pit
Premium below P3
NoThe position the driver would rejoin in if they pitted right now.An estimated position for the driver if they pit right now. Auto takes into account current track conditions. Click the header to cycle the assumption: Auto, Normal, VSC, SC.
Predicted finish
Header: Pred
Premium below P3 (the first three positions are free)
YesWhere the race predictor expects the driver to finish if the race stays green, with the places gained or lost against the current position. An optimization model works out the best pit-stop plan for every car, reacting to the other cars' plans, and simulates the rest of the race. It is recalculated each time a lap is completed and when a VSC or safety car is deployed, and then also says whether each car should box or stay out. It is predicted in a Race or a Sprint only; the column is on the board in every session, empty elsewhere, because a free account has one set of columns for all sessions. Hover for the win and podium chance and the next planned stop. After the chequered flag the column keeps the last forecast made before the end.
Premium:Gap in Fav mode, Gap Lap in Ahead and Fav modes, Gap Sectors in Ahead and Fav modes, and Position if pit, are Premium features. They are always readable for the top three positions; for every other row a free account sees a padlock cell instead of the value.

Every column available on the leaderboard, with an example of its rendered value.

Gap, Leader, Gap Lap and Gap Sectors are not the same thing

Four columns all look like time differences but answer different questions. This is the most common source of confusion on the leaderboard.

Difference between the gap-style columns
ColumnQuestion it answersTypical use
GapHow far behind the car directly in front am I, right now?Judging whether an overtake is on.
LeaderHow far behind the race leader am I, in total?Understanding the shape of the whole field and who is a lap down.
Gap LapWas my last lap quicker or slower than the reference driver's last lap?Comparing raw pace, independent of track position.
Gap SectorsIn which part of the lap am I gaining or losing against the reference? Its Acc modes answer the running total instead: how far ahead or behind am I by the end of this sector?Finding out whether a deficit is in slow corners, fast corners or on the straights.
Position changeHow many places have I gained or lost since the start?Seeing who has made progress in a race.

Last lap, best lap, personal best and session best

Lap time terminology
TermMeaning
Last lapThe lap the driver has just completed, whatever the time.
Best lapThe quickest lap that driver has managed so far in this session.
Personal bestA time that beats that same driver's previous best. Shown in green.
Session bestA time that is the quickest of anyone in the session so far. Shown in purple. In motorsport this is usually just called “purple”.

Timing colours

Colour is used to make fast times obvious at a glance. The value itself always tells you the same story, so you never need to rely on colour alone.

Meaning of timing cell colours
AppearanceMeaning
PurpleFastest of all drivers so far. Also called a session best.
GreenThe driver's own best. A personal best, but not the fastest overall.
Dimmed purpleA session best from the previous lap, shown because the current lap has not set that time yet.
Dimmed greenA personal best from the previous lap, for the same reason.

Mini sectors

The lap is divided into three sectors, and each sector into several small segments. Each segment gets its own coloured bar as the driver passes through it, so you can watch a lap develop in real time rather than waiting for the sector time.

Mini sector segment colours
AppearanceStatus codeMeaning
Yellow2048, 2052Segment completed, but no improvement on the driver's best.
Green2049Personal best for that segment.
Purple2051Fastest of anyone in that segment.
Pink2064The driver was in the pit lane.
Grey0Not set yet on this lap.

Driver states

When something happens to a driver, the row changes and the Info column spells it out in words.

In pit lanePITPink PIT badgeThe car is in the pits, either being serviced or driving through.
Out lapPIT OUTPink PIT badgeThe driver has just left the pits and is on the lap that returns them to racing speed. Times on this lap are not representative.
Below the cut lineNo changeRed row, or orange if it is one of your favouritesIn qualifying, the driver is currently in an elimination place.
FavouriteNo changeGreen rowOne of the up-to-two drivers you have selected.
No data yetNo changeRow not shownTiming data for that driver has not arrived. The whole board shows a pulsing placeholder while it loads.
Note:An in lap is the lap on which a driver comes into the pits; an out lap is the lap after leaving. Both are much slower than a normal lap, so ignore them when comparing pace.

Qualifying elimination

In qualifying, rows in an elimination position are highlighted red so you can see who needs to improve. If one of those drivers is a favourite of yours, the row turns orange instead so it still stands out from the green favourite highlight.

Qualifying cut lines
SegmentEliminated
Q1Anyone below 15th place. From the 2026 season this becomes 16th.
Q2Anyone below 10th place.
Q3Nobody. Q3 decides the top of the grid.

Compact view on phones

On a small screen the table can be replaced by one card per driver, showing position, tyre, interval, gap to leader, last and best lap, mini sectors and sector times. It ignores your column order and always shows the same fields.

Track Map

Location on screen: Right of the leaderboard

A scale drawing of the circuit with a dot for every car. Use it to see how the field is spread out, where a yellow flag is, and whether two cars are about to meet.

Driver dots

How driver dots appear on the map
AppearanceMeaning
Coloured dot with a three-letter codeA car on track. The colour is the team colour.
Faded dotThe driver is in the pit lane.
No dot at allThe driver has retired, stopped on track, or been knocked out of qualifying. They are removed from the map entirely.
Larger dot with a white ringOne of your favourite drivers.

Track colouring

With no favourites selected, the circuit outline is split into its three timing sectors, drawn in red, blue and yellow so you can tell them apart. When marshals show a flag, the affected sectors change colour and pulse to match the track status described in the Session Info Bar section.

Following one favourite

With a single favourite selected, the parts of the lap they have just completed are drawn along the circuit in the mini-sector colours, so you can see their lap taking shape on the map itself.

Single favourite trail colours
AppearanceMeaning
GreenPersonal best for that part of the lap.
PurpleFastest of anyone in that part of the lap.
PinkThe driver was in the pit lane.

Comparing two favourites

Select two favourites and the map switches to a head-to-head view: each of the three sectors is coloured for whichever of the two is quicker there. Your primary favourite is marked in yellow and the secondary in magenta, the same colours as the rings around their names on the leaderboard. If the two drive for different teams, the sector is drawn with the winner's team colour inside that yellow or magenta border.

Driver Timeline

Location on screen: Full width, below the leaderboard and map. Races and sprints only.

Legend, not shown in the app, added here for clarity:
Primary favourite
Secondary favourite

Dots show roughly where each car is around the lap. Dimmed dots are in the pit lane or a lap down.

How to read it

The strip represents one lap of the circuit. Each dot is a car, placed where it currently is around that lap. Dots bunched together mean cars running nose to tail; big empty stretches mean the field has spread out. A driver a long way from the leader is a long way round the lap from them. Cars that are a lap or more down appear alongside whoever they happen to be driving near on track, which is what you would see trackside.

Driver timeline appearance

Note:This panel only appears during a Race or Sprint. There is nothing to click on it, and it does not have an axis or scale. Treat it as a picture of the field, not a measurement.

Driver Championship

Once race control confirms a penalty has been served, it disappears from this list automatically, so anything you can see here is still outstanding.

Note:When there is nothing to show, the panel reads No active penalties. Full wording for every decision, including investigations, is in Race Control.

Track Limits

Location on screen: Bottom section, right column, middle

A running count of track limits violations per driver. Drivers usually get a black-and-white warning flag on the third offence and a penalty on the fourth, so this panel tells you who is close to trouble.

Each badge is a driver with at least one violation, showing their code and their current count, sorted with the worst offender first. The count goes up when race control reports a deleted lap for exceeding track limits, and back down if the lap time is later reinstated. Drivers with no violations are not listed, and when nobody has offended the panel reads No track limit violations.

Lap Time Series

Location on screen: Lap times page

A lap-by-lap table of times for the drivers you choose, with the tyre they were on for each lap. Use it to compare two drivers properly. The leaderboard only ever shows the latest lap.

Choosing drivers

The Drivers button in the panel header opens a picker with a checkbox per driver, plus All and None shortcuts. The number in the button tells you how many are currently selected.

Reading the table

Lap time series table
ElementWhat it shows
Lap columnThe lap number. Click the header to switch between newest-first and oldest-first.
Driver columnsOne column per selected driver. Drag a column header to reorder them.
Lap timeThe time for that lap, as minutes:seconds.thousandths.
Tyre iconThe compound in use on that lap, with a used-tyre variant when the set was not new.
Stint lapsHow many laps that set of tyres had done by that point.
DashThe driver did not set a time on that lap, usually a pit lap or an incident.
Note:Free accounts can show up to three drivers at a time; Premium has no limit. This page is not available in replay. While it is starting up it shows Loading lap data…; if no drivers are selected it shows Select drivers above to display lap times.

Live Charts

Location on screen: Charts page

Every chart of the session, one under the other, with a row of buttons at the top to jump to any of them. Which charts appear depends on the session type, because a race and a qualifying hour raise completely different questions. The same charts are free in the session analysis once the session is over.

Gap to Leader controls

Two controls sit at the top of the chart’s side panel, above the driver list, so you can follow a fight anywhere in the field, not just at the front. On a phone, open the panel with the eye button. When either control is changed, a small label in the chart’s top-left corner shows the current view, for example vs RUS · Laps 42–51.

Gap to Leader chart controls
ControlWhat it does
Gap toChoose Leader (the default) or Driver. In Driver mode each row of the driver list gets a target button: click it to measure every gap from that driver. They become a flat line at 0, a driver above it is behind them and a driver below it is ahead. For example, pick Russell as the reference and show Antonelli to watch Antonelli close in, however far both are from the leader. Clicking the rest of a row still shows or hides that driver.
Lap rangeAll, Last 10, or Custom, where a slider with two handles picks the first and the last lap to show, for example laps 20 to 35. The vertical scale fits only the laps shown, so a Safety Car restart or a big early gap no longer squashes the rest of the chart. Last 10 moves along as the race goes on, and so does Custom while its end handle is on the latest lap.
Pit markersThe dashed vertical lines mark the pit stops of the chosen driver (the leader by default).
Note:What is Premium here: the charts marked (Premium) in the table, the Driver mode of Gap to Leader, more than three drivers in Lap Time Evolution, and trend lines in that chart. A locked chart shows a panel with a Go Premium button instead of the chart, and its button in the jump row carries a lock. Once the session is over, the same charts are free in the session analysis. The charts are not shown in replay. Premium accounts can choose which charts appear and in what order with the custom layout described in Settings and customization.

Event Notifications

Location on screen: Configured from the gear icon; banners appear under the session info bar

Alerts for things you would otherwise have to watch for. Each event can play a sound, show an on-screen banner, or both. They are two separate switches on the same row of one settings panel.

The twelve events

Events marked “Fav Driver” only fire for your favourite drivers, so they stay quiet unless you have picked someone on the leaderboard.

Sounds

Every event can use any of the fourteen available sounds. A preview button next to the selector plays the sound immediately so you can pick one you will recognise. The full list is: Chord, Whistleronic, Taptap, Polite, Beeper, Alarmed, Glisten, Glass, Belligerent, Enharpment, Calm, Cloud, Sharp, Jinja.

Heads up:There is no volume control. Sounds play at a fixed level, so use your device or browser tab volume. Browsers also block audio until you have interacted with the page, so click anywhere on the dashboard once at the start of a session to make sure alerts can play.

Settings and Customization

Location on screen: Gear icon: bottom of the left menu (top bar on phones)

Everything you can change, grouped the way the settings window groups it: General, Display, Layout, Columns and Notifications. Your choices are saved in the browser you are using, so they will be there next session on the same device.

General: timing

Television and streaming feeds run behind the live timing data, which spoils incidents before you see them. The delay holds the dashboard back so it matches your broadcast.

There are two places to change it: the left menu of the live timing page itself (the top bar on phones), and Settings → General. Both offer the same two ways to set the value.

Timing settings
ControlWhereWhat it does

Layout

The Layout page arranges each live page. A Timing / Charts switch at the top chooses which one you are editing (in replay it is locked on Timing, because replay only has the board). The Lap times page is a single table, so it has nothing to arrange. With the custom layout off, the page shows the standard layout as a read-only preview.

Everything you can place or switch on: Leaderboard, Track Map, Driver Timeline, Driver Championship, Constructor Championship, Race Control, Team Radios, Penalties, Track Limits, Lap Time Series, Race Positions, Tyre Strategy, Gap to Leader, Fastest Laps, Lap Time Evolution, Pace: Drivers, Pace: Teams, Tyre Degradation, Average Positions, Traffic & Clean Air, Driver Times, Potential Lap — Drivers, Potential Lap — Teams, Top Speed, Best Sectors, Speed vs Lap Time. The board sections are arranged on the Timing tab and the charts on the Charts tab. Driver Timeline only appears for races and sprints, and each chart only appears in the sessions it applies to.

Premium:The Layout page (both the Timing and Charts tabs) and per-session columns require Premium. Without it you see a preview of the feature and a link to upgrade, and the dashboard uses the standard layout.

What is not configurable

To save you looking for them, these do not exist: there is no light theme or theme switcher, no interface language setting, no 12- or 24-hour time option, no animation or reduced-motion setting, no font size or contrast options, no refresh-rate setting, no notification volume slider and no desktop or push notifications. The language option on your account page applies to emails only, not to the interface.

Replay Mode

Live, delayed and replay data

Difference between data modes
ModeWhat you are seeing
LiveData as it arrives from the timing feed, typically ahead of a television broadcast.
DelayedThe same live data, held back by the number of seconds you set, so it lines up with your broadcast.
ReplayA recording of a completed session, played back under your control.
EstimatedSome values are worked out by this site rather than supplied by the feed: Position if pit, Predicted finish, Potential lap, and the championship projections. Treat them as informed estimates.
Note:A few live-only features are switched off in replay because they do not apply to a recording: the custom layout, the Lap times and Charts pages (and their tab bar) and the live session info bar, which replay replaces with its own controls.
